Soil Moisture – Heavy Duty Systems
Soil moisture measurement for challenging environments
Soil moisture measurement in remote, arduous, or extreme environments demand sensors that are low maintenance, robust, reliable, and provide quality data. The Soil Moisture – Heavy Duty Systems are built around sensors that are ideal for these environments.
Measurement of the soil moisture content using robust and reliable technologies, the Soil Moisture – Heavy Duty Systems range are sensors that have been proven in long term installations, and where the soil conditions are challenging. Featuring robust needles, quality enclosures and cabling, and proven measurement techniques, the range are ideal for mine site remediation monitoring, long term environmental monitoring projects, the measurement of water flow through the soil, and other similar applications.
ICT International offer solutions for the continuous measurement of the soil moisture connected with an IoT-capable datalogger. When connected to the DB2 platform, any calculations required are performed in the cloud using metadata from the sensors and data logger, requiring minimal input from the user.
Sensor combinations are built around two tiers of products, providing increasingly responsive and accurate solutions, culminating in a system that provides key soil moisture parameters for long-term site management.

About the Soil Moisture – Heavy Duty Systems:
All systems are built upon the ICT International Datalogger, which is optimised for the DB2 data handling platform. Providing an all-in-one datalogger, with power management and data handling, the datalogger platform is expandable with optional communication and sensor expansion modules.

Tier 1 Sensors (SMHD-T1):
The Tier 1 system is based on:
- MP406: A proven and robust sensor for long-term installation, the MP406 is the ideal sensor for widescale monitoring of soil moisture measurements where long-term data in challenging conditions is required. When calibrated by the user, the sensors accuracy can be within ±1% VSW; with the standard calibration, it is ±3%. Unaffected by soil salinity or soil temperature, the MP406 provides a simple data stream for the monitoring of soil moisture content in long term installations.
- Power System: Supplied with the Standalone power system, comprising a datalogger with a primary cell (single use battery), the very lower power consumption of this system combined with the ability to set alerts in the DB2 platform
Tier 3 Sensors (SMHD-T3):
The Tier 3 system is ideal for the detailed analysis of soil water responses for compliance monitoring.
- Hydraprobe: A multifunction soil moisture sensor, providing soil moisture measurements, soil temperature, bulk electrical conductivity, and pore water EC, the Hydroprobe is the solution for complex soil moisture measurement situations. Using a compact and robust enclosure, the Hydraprobe can be installed for long periods of time and still provide good quality data. Unaffected by soil salinity, Utilising proven measurement technologies, the Hydraprobe is a cost-effective solution for mine site remediation monitoring, long term environmental monitoring projects, the measurement of ________, and other similar applications.
- Power System: Supplied with the Low Power system containing a 10-watt solar panel and matching mount, and an internal 6,000mAh battery. The power system can be expanded with a supplementary 10-watt solar panel and mount to provide additional charge when used in low light conditions (EP-L).
