PHYTO-PAM-II
Multiple Excitation Wavelength Phytoplankton & Photosynthesis Analyser
The PHYTO-PAM-II provides detailed differential analysis of photosynthetic performance across four algal groups using five measuring light wavelengths, six actinic light colours, and far-red (FR) illumination. The instrument detects fluorescence with extremely high sensitivity, down to concentrations of 0.1 µg Chl a per litre, which are typically found in natural surface waters and coastal seawater.
In addition to analysing photosynthetic performance, the system offers a fast kinetics mode that assesses the wavelength-dependent absorption cross-section of PS II, σII(λ), by evaluating O–I₁ kinetics in single cultures.
About the Systems
PHYTO-PAM-II Compact Version
The PHYTO-PAM-II Compact Version combines lightweight design with easy portability. Its splash-proof cast aluminium housing integrates the control unit along with all essential components of the emitter–detector system, including the optical unit, measuring and actinic LED array, photomultiplier detector, and cuvette retainer. This version can be equipped with the Flow-Through Cuvette PHYTO-II/FT. When paired with the 0–10 V Universal Pump Control PHYTO-II/FT/I, it allows users to operate common laboratory peristaltic pumps for software-controlled automated sampling.PHYTO-PAM-II Modular Version
The PHYTO-PAM-II Modular Version offers greater flexibility than the Compact Version and allows users to customise the system based on their experimental setup. It is primarily designed for laboratory applications but can also operate in the field, as its power-and-control unit runs on a rechargeable battery. The Modular Version features exchangeable detector filters and two additional optical ports. It also provides options for software-triggered stirring and temperature control.Included in the package:
