SNiP-MC24

The SNiP-MC24 is 'Sensor Node Integrated Package' for LoRaWAN or CAT-M1 communication of real-time weather parameters within a microclimate atmospheric zone for continuous environmental monitoring of a particular site.

SNiP-MC24

The base SNiP-MC24 integrates 1x S-NODE and two sensors to a site’s unique network, communication and power requirements: 1x ATMOS-14 Temp & Humidity Sensor, and 1x ATMOS 22 Sonic Anemometer.

The ATMOS-14 measures Air Temperature (°C), Relative Humidity (RH %), Barometric Pressure (kPA), Vapour Pressure (kPa), with or without a passive radiation shield.

The ATMOS 22 measures Wind Speed (m/sec), Wind Direction (°), and Wind Gust Speed (m/sec).

Further parameters can be added to the SNiP, without requiring loggers to match each distinct sensor, substantially reducing the cost of getting a fuller picture on the application. The S-NODE can support 2x additional sensors to the base package.

ATMOS 22 Sonic Anemometer

  • Measures Horizontal Wind Speed and Direction
    The ATMOS 22 is a rugged, research-grade two-dimensional sonic anemometer built specifically for agricultural, forestry, and environmental research applications.
  • Accurate at Low Wind Speeds
    A lower wind speed threshold of 0 m/s makes the ATMOS 22 especially well-suited for measuring wind within plant canopies, where wind speeds are often below the threshold of a cup anemometer. And with a resolution of 0.01 m/s, the ATMOS 22 is capable of recording fine-scale variations in wind speeds within and above plant canopies.
  • No Maintenance Required
    The ATMOS 22 is designed for long-term, maintenance-free operation. No moving parts means no mechanical wear and no need for oiling or replacing bearings.
  • Never Needs Calibration
    The ATMOS 22 uses ultrasonic sound waves to measure wind velocity and direction. Because this measurement comes from first principles, the ATMOS 22 doesn’t ever need to be calibrated once it leaves the factory.
  • Uses Very Little Power
    The ATMOS 22 requires 100 to 1000 times less power than other ultrasonic anemometers. It’s built to run six months or more on the five AA batteries in Em50 series data loggers without significantly affecting battery life. Note: the ATMOS 22 is also compatible with other data loggers. See specifications for more information.
  • Low Cost
    Most agricultural and environmental researchers use wind as just one variable among many. Occasionally the scientific objectives of a study require multiple simultaneous measurements of wind to capture vertical or horizontal heterogeneity in the environment. A primary design goal of the ATMOS 22 is to provide high accuracy wind speed and direction at a price that opens up research options, including greater spatial coverage.
  • Customised for Environmental Research
    Wind speed and direction are fundamental measurements necessary for a wide range of agricultural, forestry, and micrometeorological applications. The ATMOS 22 was designed to put the accuracy and low maintenance benefits of sonic anemometers in a sensor built specifically for these applications. The ATMOS 22 is not intended as a replacement for the high-end three dimensional sonic anemometers used by micrometeorologists. It is designed to provide agricultural and environmental researchers a high accuracy, low maintenance solution for measuring horizontal wind speed and direction.
  • Output
    The ATMOS 22 reports wind speed and maximum gust speed in meters per second with a resolution of 0.01 m/s. It also reports wind direction with a resolution of 1 degree. If the sampling rate is greater than 0.1 Hz, the anemometer reports the speed and direction at the time of sampling. If sampled less frequently, the anemometer samples every 10 seconds, averages the vector components of the wind, and records the maximum gust during the specified sampling period.
  • Collect Data and Monitor Remotely
    Monitor wind speed and direction from your office, phone, or any internet-connected device by connecting the ATMOS 22 sonic anemometer to an Em50G data logger. The Em50G setup allows you to get near-real time information, check sensor and system function, and download data from sites that are difficult to access.
  • Data Logging
    The ATMOS 22 Sonic Anemometer is an SDI-12 digital sensor available with either a single 3.5 mm stereo connector or stripped and tinned wire leads. When purchased with a stereo connector, the ATMOS 22 can be plugged directly into Meter/Decagon’s Em50 series data loggers. Wind speed, direction, and maximum gust data are all transmitted through a single stereo connector. No programming is needed. The ATMOS 22 Sonic Anemometer is also compatible with Campbell Scientific and other SDI-12 capable data loggers. When used with certain data loggers, the ATMOS 22 also reports air temperature from an onboard thermistor.

    Integrate into non-Decagon data loggers with the easy-to-use SDI-12 communication protocol.

    This 5 cm x 2 cm sensor is able to fit into the smallest of spaces.
  • Weatherproof
    Thanks to its unique Teflon screen, the relative humidity sensor can survive a deluge. Naturally, it won’t be transmitting accurately while waterlogged; but as soon as it has dried out, it’s back in the game.
  • Fast Response
    The Teflon screen protects the sensor from liquid water and dust without limiting diffusion of water vapour. The protected sensor is still able to quickly respond to changes in humidity.
  • Integrated Temperature for Accuracy
    Accurate relative humidity readings require accurate air temperature readings taken at the same place and time. This sensor takes both measurements simultaneously for the best possible accuracy.
  • Radiation Shield Included
    The included radiation shield is designed to improve air temperature readings by minimising radiation and maximising airflow over the surface of the sensor. Specially designed to preserve the correlation between actual air temperature and sensor air temperature while keeping the shield size small.

S-NODE

The S-NODE (for Environmental Monitoring) has been designed to support the broad suite of SDI-12 based environmental sensors. The S-NODE can support sensors with higher power requirements; a solar panel can charge either the internal lithium-ion battery or both the node and sensor can be powered by an external 12V system (e.g. battery or mains source).

A decoder suitable for TTN will be provided based upon sensor configuration.

The ATMOS 22 is a rugged, research-grade two-dimensional sonic anemometer built specifically for agricultural, forestry, and environmental research applications. Note: The DS-2 is being replaced by the Meter ATMOS 22. The ATMOS 22 features improved firmware and hardware components, and outputs an additional parameter (wind gust). If replacing a DS-2 with an ATMOS 22, changes will need to be made to your datalogger setup to allow for this additional parameter.
