Fixed mounted infrared temperature sensor Enviro-Therm™.
Optimised for measuring plant foliage surface temperature.
The ENVIRO-THERM Model 4000L Infrared Temperature Sensor is the traditional temperature sensor manufactured by Everest Interscience. It has been used extensively for continuous monitoring of crops and other targets in the natural environment and is especially optimised for measuring plant foliage surface temperature. The electronics for the 4000L Sensor are housed in a stainless steel case that is sealed for extra protection when using the instrument outdoors. It has the same temperature range, resolution, accuracy and repeatability as the MINI-THERM but it is two inches in diameter by three inches in length. The standard output is Analogue Millivolt at 10 mV/°C. It comes with an optional 0-5 Volt output.
Applications include:
The Everest Interscience ENVIRO-THERMTM 4000L is used to Measure temperature for precision applications in scientific research, especially in plant science and biological science applications. These are low temperature applications and hence they have a very weak infrared signal. This very weak signal must be resolved to .1 of a degree C. This presents a specialised application of infrared thermometry. This is the application that Everest InterScience have focused on.
The 4000L is housed in a stainless steel case that is sealed for extra protection. The sensor is ideally suited to be mounted permanently outdoors for continuous measurements when connected to a TSM (Temperature Sensor Meter).
The 4000L measures temperatures from -10°C to 100°C with ±0.5°C accuracy. The 4000L has an optical configuration of robust aerospace quality, double coated zinc selenide lenses per military specification MIL-C- 13508. It measures in the spectral pass band 8 wavelengths or 14 microns.
A field of view of ether 4° or 15° is available. The response time of the instrument is less than one second. Emissivity is settable from 0.1 to 0.98. The 4000L uniquely incorporates the SKY-SPYTM System to give triple accuracy of outdoor temperature measurements. Only Everest Interscience sensors incorporate SKY-SPYTM.
SKY-SPYTM System
Scientists have found that infrared temperature measurements taken outdoors can be inconsistent. Infrared thermometers that are calibrated to 0.25° or 0.5° under laboratory conditions cannot hold that accuracy when used outdoors. Sky radiation noise will contribute from 0.5°C to 2°C random uncertainty to measurements taken outdoors. Everest Interscience SKY-SPYTM accurately corrects for this unwanted noise.
To account for unwanted radiative effects a special, wide angle, optic is needed to cover the entire sky. In addition, the sky radiation conditions change by the minute and must, therefore, be tracked and corrected in real time with less than one second time constant. This is an absolute necessity for accurate, consistent and repeatable temperature measurements.
SKY-SPYTM is absolutely essential in order to read the “true” surface temperature versus the “apparent” surface temperature of targets.
The SKY-SPYTM system embedded in the 4000L is the only system available on infrared thermometers to accurately measure temperature outdoors.
