Dendrometers
IoT connected dendrometers from ICT International provide measurement logging and connectivity making them ideal for measurement of tree or plant growth, either through diameter (point dendrometer) or circumference (band dendrometer).
The range of IoT connected devices are detailed below, including node options for each dendrometer type.
- Band Dendrometer (Circumference)
- Pivot Dendrometer (Diameter)
- DR (Radius) Dendrometers
Band Dendrometer (Circumference)
Band Dendrometers are a long accepted and widely used method of measuring tree circumference and can provide changes in tree diameter at breast height (DBH), basal area, and basal area increment. The DBS60 and DBV60 Band Dendrometer is a high resolution (1μm [0.001mm]), non-invasive sensor capable of measuring a wide range of diameters (50mm>). The stainless-steel band has a very low linear thermal co-efficient. Thermal variations caused by daily or seasonal changes in temperature have no measurable impact on the measurement accuracy. The DBS60 is IP66 rated and is designed to be installed in the harshest field conditions for years at a time.
Suitable for stems >60mm Diameter.
The AD-NODE-L1 (LoRaWAN) supports up to 2 x DBV60
The MFR-NODE (LoRaWAN or CATM1/NB-IoT) supports up to 4 x DBV60 or 2 x DBS60
The S-NODE (LoRaWAN or CATM1/NB-IoT) supports up to 4 x DBS60
Pivot Dendrometer (Diameter)
Pivot dendrometers are designed for simple, error free installation, being fastened on the stem by a spring-based lever clamp. Adherence pressure is set as a compromise between the influence on plant tissues and installation stability. The DPS40/DPV40 Pivot Stem Dendrometers are high-resolution pivot-based sensors for measurement of small stems, from 5mm to 40mm, the bearing of the position sensor is carefully shaped for minimal effect of temperature and axial forces.
Suitable for stems 5 – 40mm in Diameter.
The AD-NODE-L1 (LoRaWAN) supports up to 2 x DPV40
The MFR-NODE(LoRaWAN or CATM1/NB-IoT) supports up to 4 x DPV40 or 2 x DPS40
The S-NODE (LoRaWAN or CATM1/NB-IoT) supports up to 4 x DPS40
DR (Radius) Dendrometers
The DR series dendrometers are used for high-precision and continuous measurement of stem diameter changes. Mounted with one (DR3, DR3W) or two special screws (DR1, DR2, DR1W) anchored in the tree stem, the DR series dendrometers measure changes in radial growth and daily variation of the trunk diameter. Screw-mounting ensures extreme stability for long-term measurements with limited maintenance options.
DR dendrometers are available in five different versions, see the product link here for model specific information
The MFR-NODE (LoRaWAN or CATM1/NB-IoT) supports up to 3 x DR Dendrometers
DF Fruit and Vegetable Dendrometers
The DF range of fruit dendrometers measure fruit diameters of up to 30cm. They are widely applicable for fruit size management, irrigation water and fertiliser use strategy, and researching on plant growth rates and carbon allocation.
DF dendrometers are available in three different versions, see the product link here for model specific information.
The MFR-NODE (LoRaWAN or CATM1/NB-IoT) supports up to 3 x DF Dendrometers
Vertical Dendrometers
The DV dendrometer is designed to measure vertical changes of trees. Tree stems and their respective sections vary in length and curvature, according to water status, wind direction and wind speed and fruit load, and unbalanced growth or loss of crown parts. The continuous measurement of vertical changes provides valuable information in assessing the static properties of a tree (stress-strain relationship, mechanical load/stability).
Suitable for the measurement of trees with a diameter greater than 8 cm, the measuring range is 11 mm, with a linearity of less than 1%. The DV Vertical Dendrometer is for the measurement of vertical changes in stem dimension or stem curvature.
The MFR-NODE (LoRaWAN or CATM1/NB-IoT) supports up to 3 x DV Dendrometers
